The name of the MIG-R is not related to the famous MIG jet, but to the nickname of the CEO. We think, that no manufacturer succeeds better in highlighting an external battery as a design highlight than Thok.
In the automotive and motorcycle world, Japan has always had a reputation for being a breeding ground for excellent engines. Shimano is doing its utmost to live up to this reputation in the e-bike world with the EP8 engine. With torque under the motor cover, the support is generous. Nobody needs to fear steep hills anymore. Furthermore, the power of the motor control is regulated so that the start always feels dynamic,. Fans of XXL tours are greatly restricted by the MIG-R with only an average range.

The Fox chassis provides safety and traction, even when the trail gets rougher. However, it comes to its limit at high speed. Bad brakes reduce the riding pleasure. Fortunately, this is not the case with the MIG-R. With their four pistons and 2 disc brakes the SRAM brake brakes good. The average shifting components and accessories leave some tuning potential open. For most e-bikers, this should be an acceptable point. The moderate head tube angle provides a good compromise between stability and agility when going downhill. The reach is also right there in the middle ground. The low bottom bracket height is a party pooper for the handling on the trail. On other bikes, you are more centrally located behind the handlebar. Due to the short chainstays and the shallow seat angle , when climbing steep sections, it requires active weight shifting to prevent the front wheel from lifting. It's no use beating around the bush: the geometry of Thok doesn't suit our taste. Competitors are closer to the cutting edge here.

Expirience with the Thok MIG-R

With a middle ground chassis and a mediocre groupset, the MIG-R definitely has weaknesses. Nevertheless, it remains a solid all-rounder with a wide range of abilities , thanks to a good motor and a good brake system.
