Bicycle titan Trek is not too proud to shift its focus from the high-end segment. The Marlin+ 8 is an attempt to engage customer groups beyond the hardcore scene.
Bosch is the major motor manufacturer in the EMTB world, alongside Shimano - and it's no surprise, as the Active Line Plus shows. At steep sections, the somewhat weak Bosch motor requires a lot of initiative from the biker. The Bosch Active Line Plus gives off a natural riding feeling. Fans of XXL tours are greatly restricted by the Marlin+ 8 , because of its low range.

At a glance

The most importanten ratings of the Marlin+ 8 in comparison to the competitor bikes of following categorie: (3000) .

The good Rock Shox fork dampens small and medium bumps confidently when mountain biking. The mid-range brakes from Shimano do their job but could be a bit firmer. The power of the four pistons setup is only average. The shifting and the rest of the components are always in the shadow of the engine when it comes to electric mountain bikes. Nevertheless, Trek doesn't skimp here and instals very good components. The moderate head tube angle provides a good compromise between stability and agility when going downhill. The reach is also right there in the middle ground. The weight of a bike is a key factor for the fun of riding. With 21,3 kg, the Marlin+ 8 is one of the lightest Tourenbikes on the market. This turns the bike into a real joyride on the trail. If the crankset stands still during the descent, the motor and battery become an unnecessary burden. But Trek manages to give the Marlin+ 8 a natural, smooth handling despite this, with a very pleasing geometry and low weight. Only very few manufacturers manage to create the illusion of a MTB without motor in the EMTB genre. Hats off!

Conclusion

Expirience with the Trek Marlin+ 8

The developers of Trek have created a solid all-rounder with the Marlin+ 8. Even though the E-Mountainbike reveals a weak flank with a weak range and a mediocre motor, it remains thanks to a fantastic geometry, a very good groupset and a good fork:Genetiv a widely applicable vehicle. Warning when choosing size: The Marlin+ 8 sizing runs small. The guarantee promise of 25 years provides trust.
