The PL Carbon Pro caused such a stir at Eurobike 2024 that it quickly became clear to visitors and industry alike: Chinese electronics giant DJI's first EMTB, which is sold under the Amflow, is the highlight of current EMTB development. DJI is the undisputed market leader for camera drones and is using its technical expertise in this field to revolutionize the world of EMTBs with its very own drive system. Technically unique solutions, easy-to-use products and an unbeatable price have made DJI the number one player in the market for action cams, camera stabilizers and drones within just a few years. And the big question is, of course, whether the Chinese will also succeed in the field of EMTBs?
The heart of the PL Carbon Pro is, of course, the brand new Avinox. With 105 Nm and a peak power of up to 1000 watts, the Chinese unit is a true powerhouse. Established motors like the Bosch CX or Shimano EP 801 don’t come close to these values and are significantly heavier. Despite its immense power, the Avinox weighs only 2.25 kilograms. That’s about 400 grams or approximately 15% less than the most popular motors from Shimano and Bosch. DJI has also managed to eliminate the annoying gearbox noise that is known from the established competitors in their first attempt. During our test, the motor was remarkably quiet, both under load and during vibrations. The smooth modulation and the very low free angles of the crank before engagement also show that in the field of electronics, no one can compete with DJI. The OLED display with touch function, integrated into the top tube, makes the solutions of established competitors look outdated. Here, too, DJI uses its technological advantage from the world of cameras to take user-friendliness to a new level in the EMTB sector. The batteries associated with the drive system have 600 Wh capacity and stand out from the competition with a fast-charging feature and low weight. According to DJI, a completely discharged battery can be recharged to 75% in just 1.5 hours. Fans of XXL tours are greatly restricted by the PL Carbon Pro, because of its low range. The battery is securely attached to the down tube and cannot be removed for charging or storage.

At a glance

The most importanten ratings of the Amflow PL Carbon Pro (600 Wh) in comparison to the competitor bikes of following categorie: (10000) .

Even on rough terrain, the PL Carbon Pro doesn't lose its composure thanks to the excellent Fox chassis, giving you a lot of control. Whoever wants to ride fast, needs good brakes. The Magura brakes are equipped with four pistons and large brake rotors. That way, the premium brakes decelerate more than adequately. At the drivetrain components and the rest of the parts, Amflow goes all-in and only uses outstanding parts. The moderate head tube angle provides a good compromise between stability and agility when going downhill. The reach is also right there in the middle ground. Overall, the Amflow developers have done a great job with a god geometry. The scale stays at 19,4 kg with this model. That makes the PL Carbon Pro one of the light Trailbikes.

Conclusion

Expirience with the Amflow PL Carbon Pro (600 Wh)

The PL Carbon Pro is a Swiss army knife in EMTB form for trips purposes. There is still room for improvement at a weak range. Nonetheless, with an excellent motor, an outstanding groupset and an excellent handling, Amflow presents itself as an outstanding all-rounder among the Trailbikes.
