CUBE AMS Hybrid ONE44 C:68X SLX Review

Bosch is the major motor manufacturer in the EMTB world, alongside Shimano - and it's no surprise, as the SX shows. The Swabians from Bosch are sending their first light engine into the race with the SX. With 55 Nm torque, this unit places exactly in the middle between Fazua's Ride 6 and TQ's HPR 5. However, it delivers up to 6 watts of support, similar performance figures to the popular Bosch CX. The starting behavior remains dynamic. The complete motor control is very $natural. In terms of installation space and sound, the small Bosch can't quite keep up with its competitors from the Light segment. The short range unfortunately limits the tour radius quite significantly. Who wants to remove the battery for charging or storing, will be disappointed with the AMS Hybrid ONE44 C:68X SLX. The battery is firmly built-in.

Carbon frames are rather the exception in the price range of about 6€. With the carbon fibre chassis, CUBE thus sets clear accents compared to the aluminium competitors. The Fox chassis provides safety and traction, even when the trail gets rougher. However, it comes to its limit at high speed. Thanks to the solid power, the Shimano brakes can be counted on in the upper class segment. With four pistons in front and two pistons in the rear , CUBE won't take any chances in that area. The average shifting components and accessories leave some tuning potential open. For most e-bikers, this should be an acceptable point. The handling of the bike is pleasantly balanced due to the moderate geometry. This allows you to intuitively control the bike over the trails. The bottom bracket is high, which costs handling points. This tends to make the rider stand on the bike. On other EMTBs it feels better integrated. When I looked at the weight of the complete bike, my jaw actually dropped. With 17,3 kg, the AMS Hybrid ONE44 C:68X SLX is a real lightweight. If the crankset stands still during the descent, the motor and battery become an unnecessary burden. But CUBE manages to give the AMS Hybrid ONE44 C:68X SLX a natural, smooth handling despite this, with a pleasing geometry and low weight. Only very few manufacturers manage to create the illusion of a MTB without motor in the EMTB genre. Hats off!
