With the VAM² SL 9.9, the German manufacturer Focus is building a light eMTB for all those who don't plan on tackling very rough trails. With 130 mm, the bike is deliberately designed for easy terrain. In order to provide uncompromising riding fun, Focus has deliberately focused on lightweight construction.

Even steep ramps are surprisingly easy to climb with the Fazua motor. With its boost function, which provides 450 watts of support for a short period of time, the Fazua Ride 60 reduces the gap between light and classic full-power motors. At the moment, hardly any other light motor offers such a good combination of natural support, dynamic power delivery and capability. The average range can become a problem especially for long mountain bike rides. The battery is firmly integrated into the frame and can not be easily removed.

At a glance

The most importanten ratings of the Focus VAM² SL 9.9 in comparison to the competitor bikes of following categorie: (9000) .

Rough descents take away some of the fear thanks to the average chassis. Whoever wants to ride fast, needs good brakes. The Shimano brakes are equipped with four pistons and large brake rotors. That way, the premium brakes decelerate more than adequately. Taking a holistic approach also includes looking at the gearing and components. The components are of good qualtiy and offer no reason for criticism here. The moderate head tube angle provides a good compromise between stability and agility when going downhill. The reach is also right there in the middle ground. The bottom bracket is high, which costs handling points. This tends to make the rider stand on the bike. On other EMTBs it feels better integrated. Short chainstays and and a slack seat angle make the front end light in steep climbs. To keep the front wheel on the ground, you need to consciously lean forward. With the weight of 17,5 kg, Focus puts the competition in a state of shock. Indeed, among Trailbikes, it is hard to find a lighter model. The riding pleasure is guaranteed. The low weight combined with the pleasant geometry ensures a very natural and agile handling. With very few other EMTBs, you forget so quickly that you are moving a bike with a motor, as with the VAM² SL 9.9.

Conclusion

Expirience with the Focus VAM² SL 9.9

Overall, an excellent handling and a very good brake system speak a clear language. The VAM² SL 9.9 is a good bike with a high fun factor for downhill rides. Only an average chassis mar the overall picture. A generous warranty also speaks of sustainable business practices. With 6 years of warranty, Focus sets the bar high!
