Maxx FAB4 ELS X2 Review

In the automotive and motorcycle world, Japan has always had a reputation for being a breeding ground for excellent engines. Shimano is doing its utmost to live up to this reputation in the e-bike world with the EP801 engine. Even nasty steep sections are effortlessly climbed by the motor. The Shimano EP801 conveys a riding feeling. Whoever likes to go on long rides will be pleased with the very good range.

The SR Suntour chassis provides safety and traction, even when the trail gets rougher. However, it comes to its limit at high speed. Especially for heavy riders, the Maxx brakes could be a problem. With two pistons they only decelerate averagely. For an All Mountain , the Schwalbe tires with a width of #reifen_inch_breite inches are relatively narrow. In our opinion, Maxx could have put on wider tires. The average shifting components and accessories leave some tuning potential open. For most e-bikers, this should be an acceptable point. When it comes to the geometry, Maxx does not go completely crazy. The head tube angle and reach values were chosen with care. The result: A balanced riding behaviour with a good combination of playfulness and straight-line stability. The bottom bracket is high, which costs handling points. This tends to make the rider stand on the bike. On other EMTBs it feels better integrated.
