The DUNE R, alongside the Neat and the Crusher, is another downhill-focused rig from Mondraker. Sporting a Bosch SX motor, additional travel, and mullet wheels, it stands out distinctly from its siblings in the brand's lineup.
The SX from Bosch shows impressively that they shouldn't be limited to DIY and household products. The developers at Bosch are entering the race with their first Light Motor, the Performance SX. With 55 Nm of torque, the unit sits squarely between Fazua's Ride 6 and TQ's HPR 5. However, it delivers similar power values to the popular Full-Power sibling, the Powermotor CX, with up to 6 watts of assistance. However, the Bosch SX only delivers this power at a very high cadence. To feel the full power, one must pedal at a sporty 1 revolutions per minute. The startup behavior remains harmonious. The entire motor control is very natural. While in operation, the Performance SX is quieter than the Powermotor CX, but still louder than the sometimes whisper-quiet competition from Fazua or TQ. When descending, Bosch has managed to reduce rattling compared to the CX model, although it remains noticeably audible with the SX. The short range unfortunately limits the tour radius quite significantly.

At a glance

The most importanten ratings of the Mondraker DUNE R in comparison to the competitor bikes of following categorie: (8000) .

A good chassis sits in rugged terrain and generates plenty of traction. That's exactly what the good Fox chassis in the DUNE R hits. The thick 38mm stanchions on the fork provide an extra dose of steering precision and performance. Especially for heavy riders, the Mondraker brakes could be a problem. With four pistons they only decelerate averagely. Taking a holistic approach also includes looking at the gearing and components. The components are of good qualtiy and offer no reason for criticism here. The relatively high reach value in the geometry table is compensated by Mondraker with a relatively short stem. Thus, the long main frame remains maneuverable in the terrain. On the scale, the DUNE R makes a good figure with 20,2 kg. Most Enduros are significantly heavier.

Conclusion

Expirience with the Mondraker DUNE R

Especially when gravity pulls man and machine downwards, the DUNE R really comes alive. With a fantastic geometry, a very good motor and a good chassis the Mondraker is a real trail rocket even for really gnarly terrain. No Yin without Yang. With a middle ground brake system, the DUNE R has its weaknesses too. A generous warranty also speaks of sustainable business practices. With 25 years of warranty, Mondraker sets the bar high!
