Orbea URRUN 30 Review

Shimano has become the biggest component manufacturer for bicycles thanks to its gear, pedal and brake components. It's clear that the Japanese want to shape the E-Bike trend from this dominant market position. At the drivetrain, Orbea relies on the Shimano EP8 RS. The big difference between the EP8 RS and the regular EP8 motor lies in the software. For use in light EMTBs, the maximum support was slightly reduced. Nevertheless, the EP8 RS remains significantly stronger than other light motors. Like the EP8, the EP8 RS conveys a natural riding experience. The power delivery is always harmonious. Something annoying with the EP8 RS is the slight gear rattle downhill. Fans of XXL tours are greatly restricted by the URRUN 30 with only an average range.

Suitable descents for a Tourenbike are smoothed out by the very good Marzocchi fork. Especially heavy riders should be aware that the Magura only decelerates poorly. The shifting and the rest of the components are always in the shadow of the engine when it comes to electric mountain bikes. Nevertheless, Orbea doesn't skimp here and instals very good components. The moderate head tube angle provides a good compromise between stability and agility when going downhill. The reach is also right there in the middle ground. Due to the short chainstays , when climbing steep sections, it requires active weight shifting to prevent the front wheel from lifting. For the good geometry, the developer team of Orbea definitely deserves props. Such a knack for detail in geometry is rarely seen. With its slim weight, the URRUN 30 is one of the lightest EMTBs. An e-mountain bike is most fun when it can be ridden on a single track like a bike without a motor. The combination of good weight and very pleasant geometry give the URRUN 30 the same natural and nimble handling as you know from non-motorised mountain bikes. Really only a few manufacturers manage to get this right.
