Trek Powerfly 5 Review

The Americans from Trek are among the innovators in the e-mountain bike segment. With the Powerfly 5, however, they prove that they can also build simple bikes for everyday use without technical overkill.
Bosch is the major motor manufacturer in the EMTB world, alongside Shimano - and it's no surprise, as the Performance Line CX shows. The Bosch motor takes away the fear of even the steepest ramps. The combination of a very well-rounded riding feeling and a progressive power delivery characterises the Bosch Performance Line CX. The well-tuned driving modes hit the mark. Thanks to the good range, longer tours with the Powerfly 5 are no problem.

At a glance

The most importanten ratings of the Powerfly 5 in comparison to the competitor bikes of following categorie: (4000) .

The good Rock Shox fork dampens small and medium bumps confidently when mountain biking. The mid-range brakes from Shimano do their job but could be a bit firmer. The power of the four pistons setup is only average. A nice touch: The gear and components are on a very good level. The handling of the bike is pleasantly balanced due to the moderate geometry. This allows you to intuitively control the bike over the trails. The bottom bracket is high, which costs handling points. This tends to make the rider stand on the bike. On other EMTBs it feels better integrated.

Conclusion

Expirience with the Trek Powerfly 5

For tours, the Powerfly 5 with a very good groupset, a good motor and a good fork is well equipped. Only with an average brake system you have to look away. Be careful when choosing the size: The Aluminium frame sizing runs small. Trek gives a warranty of 25 years on the bike.
