Canyon Neuron:ON 8 Review

In the automotive and motorcycle world, Japan has always had a reputation for being a breeding ground for excellent engines. Shimano is doing its utmost to live up to this reputation in the e-bike world with the EP8 engine. Steep ramps are no problem for the Shimano motor. Additionally, the Shimano EP8 stands out with a natural riding feeling and a gentle power delivery. The average range can become a problem especially for long mountain bike rides.

With 130 mm travel of the Fox chassis, it's not exactly generously equipped. However, in its preferred habitat, the Fox chassis works well in its even in alpine terrain. When it comes to the brakes, Canyon reaches for the top shelf and instals premium brakes with four pistons and large brake rotors from Shimano. The average shifting components and accessories leave some tuning potential open. For most e-bikers, this should be an acceptable point. The moderate head tube angle provides a good compromise between stability and agility when going downhill. The reach is also right there in the middle ground. The bottom bracket is high, which costs handling points. This tends to make the rider stand on the bike. On other EMTBs it feels better integrated. Due to the short chainstays and the shallow seat angle , when climbing steep sections, it requires active weight shifting to prevent the front wheel from lifting. Overall, the geometry does not seem to be up to date anymore. The competition is significantly more modern in this regard.
