Orbea RISE M20 Review

The visual similarity to a bike without a motor make the RISE M20 one of the most popular e-mountain bikes on the market.
Shimano has become the biggest component manufacturer for bicycles thanks to its gear, pedal and brake components. It's clear that the Japanese want to shape the E-Bike trend from this dominant market position. At the drivetrain, Orbea relies on the Shimano EP8 RS. The big difference between the EP8 RS and the regular EP8 motor lies in the software. For use in light EMTBs, the maximum support was slightly reduced. Nevertheless, the EP8 RS remains significantly stronger than other light motors. Like the EP8, the EP8 RS conveys a natural riding experience. The power delivery is always harmonious. Something annoying with the EP8 RS is the slight gear rattle downhill. The short range unfortunately limits the tour radius quite significantly. The battery is firmly integrated into the frame and can not be easily removed.

At a glance

The most importanten ratings of the Orbea RISE M20 in comparison to the competitor bikes of following categorie: (7000) .

Carbon is considered a premium material in the bike industry. In the price range about 7000€, aluminium is usually the frame material used. With the carbon frame, Orbea can clearly differentiate itself from many competitors. Rough descents take away some of the fear thanks to the average chassis. At the brakes, Orbea middle class two pistons brakes with small 18 brake rotors by Shimano are used. The drivetrain and components have a subordinate but not to be neglected importance when it comes to EMTB. Even the bike brand product managers know this and don't aim too high with mostly average components. The moderate head tube angle provides a good compromise between stability and agility when going downhill. The reach is also right there in the middle ground. The low bottom bracket height will likely be a sticking point for trail riders, as it negatively affects handling. Due to the short chainstays , when climbing steep sections, it requires active weight shifting to prevent the front wheel from lifting. Overall, the Orbea developers have done a great job with a god geometry. On the scale, the RISE M20 makes a good figure with 19,72 kg. Most Trailbikes are significantly heavier.

Conclusion

Expirience with the Orbea RISE M20

The developers of Orbea have created a solid all-rounder with the RISE M20. Even though the E-Mountainbike reveals a weak flank with a mediocre motor and an average chassis, it remains thanks to an excellent handling:Genetiv a widely applicable vehicle. The warranty of 25 years proves that Orbea has a lot of trust in its products.
