Orbea RISE SL M-LTD (630 Wh) Review

The Orbea Rise is one of the most popular eMTBs on the market. With 140 mm travel in the RISE SL M-LTD, the Spaniards remain true to the orientation of its predecessor. If you're looking for something for rougher trails, the LT version of the Rise is the one for you. Even though both versions have the same frame, the SL versions are still all about lightweight construction.

As a component giant, Shimano is mostly known for its dominant position in bicycle gears. But with the EP801 RS, the Japanese are clearly showing that they can look beyond their own plate too. The Shimano EP801 RS motor is based on the hardware of the Shimano EP801 motor, but the software for the RS is provided by Orbea. Unlike previous RS versions, this motor now offers a full torque of a hefty 85 Nm, placing it in the performance class of full-power motors like the Bosch CX. The software allows for customization of power delivery through two profiles in the Shimano E-Tube app: one profile for maximum range and another for dynamic force and maximum power. This adaptability gives the rider the freedom to tailor the motor performance to individual preferences. The power delivery of the EP801 RS is always smooth, with no harsh jerks or jolts. However, one must accept a clearly audible motor noise under load. Downhill, however, the EP801 RS is surprisingly quiet. The typical gear clatter of the EP801 motor is barely noticeable in the EP801 RS. Fans of XXL tours are greatly restricted by the RISE SL M-LTD with only an average range. The integrated battery gives developers constructive freedom when designing the frame. However, to charge it, the bike always has to be brought near an outlet.

At a glance

The most importanten ratings of the Orbea RISE SL M-LTD (630 Wh) in comparison to the competitor bikes of following categorie: (12000) .

The good Fox chassis absorbs even larger roots with the calmness of a Buddhist monk. With its four pistons the Shimano braking system decelerates extremely goodly. This allows you to maintain control over your own pace even in the steepest descents. The shifting and the rest of the components are always in the shadow of the engine when it comes to electric mountain bikes. Nevertheless, Orbea doesn't skimp here and instals very good components. With a high Reach value, Orbea follows the calls of end-users for modern geometries. But the engineers don't lose sight of the remaining geometry measurements. When considering the whole picture, it must be said that the remaining geometry values very good harmonise. The weight of a bike is a key factor for the fun of riding. With 17,4 kg, the RISE SL M-LTD is one of the lightest Trailbikes on the market. This turns the bike into a real joyride on the trail. If the crankset stands still during the descent, the motor and battery become an unnecessary burden. But Orbea manages to give the RISE SL M-LTD a natural, smooth handling despite this, with a very pleasing geometry and low weight. Only very few manufacturers manage to create the illusion of a MTB without motor in the EMTB genre. Hats off!

Conclusion

Expirience with the Orbea RISE SL M-LTD (630 Wh)

At first glance, you better look away when it comes to a moderate range. Nevertheless, the RISE SL M-LTD presents itself overall as an exceptional all-rounder. Especially an outstanding handling, a very good brake system and a very good groupset are playing into the hands of the Orbea. The RISE SL M-LTD is a successful Trailbike for tours on challenging trails. With 25 years of guarantee, nothing can go wrong in the long run.
