Stevens E-MAVERICK AM 9.4.3 Review

In steep sections the somewhat low torque TQ motor requires a lot of initiative from the rider. The TQ HPR 50 provides a very natural riding experience. The power delivery is always harmonious. The short range unfortunately limits the tour radius quite significantly.

The good Rock Shox chassis confidently dampens small and medium bumps. Whoever wants to ride fast, needs good brakes. The Shimano brakes are equipped with four pistons and 2 millimeter rotors. That way, the premium brakes decelerate more than adequately. The shifting and the rest of the components are always in the shadow of the engine when it comes to electric mountain bikes. Nevertheless, Stevens doesn't skimp here and instals very good components. When it comes to the geometry, Stevens does not go completely crazy. The head tube angle and reach values were chosen with care. The result: A balanced riding behaviour with a good combination of playfulness and straight-line stability. The low bottom bracket height will likely be a sticking point for trail riders, as it negatively affects handling. Due to the short chainstays , when climbing steep sections, it requires active weight shifting to prevent the front wheel from lifting. For the good geometry, the developer team of Stevens definitely deserves props. Such a knack for detail in geometry is rarely seen. With the weight of 16,5 kg, Stevens puts the competition in a state of shock. Indeed, among Trailbikes, it is hard to find a lighter model. The riding pleasure is guaranteed. If the crankset stands still during the descent, the motor and battery become an unnecessary burden. But Stevens manages to give the E-MAVERICK AM 9.4.3 a natural, smooth handling despite this, with a very pleasing geometry and low weight. Only very few manufacturers manage to create the illusion of a MTB without motor in the EMTB genre. Hats off!
