With the model addition SL Focus wants to build an E-MTB that meets the latest demands of the light E-MTB trend. The carbon frame with its filigree lines already meets the taste of the target group.

Even steep ramps are surprisingly easy to climb with the Fazua motor. With its boost function, which provides 450 watts of support for a short period of time, the Fazua Ride 60 reduces the gap between light and classic full-power motors. At the moment, hardly any other light motor offers such a good combination of natural support, dynamic power delivery and capability. Fans of XXL tours are greatly restricted by the JAM² SL 8.8 with only an average range.

At a glance

The most importanten ratings of the Focus JAM² SL 8.8 in comparison to the competitor bikes of following categorie: (7000) .

Carbon is considered a premium material in the bike industry. In the price range about 7000€, aluminium is usually the frame material used. With the carbon frame, Focus can clearly differentiate itself from many competitors. The good Fox chassis absorbs even larger roots with the calmness of a Buddhist monk. Especially for heavy riders, the Focus brakes could be a problem. With four pistons they only decelerate averagely. At the drivetrain components and the rest of the parts, Focus uses average parts. When it comes to the geometry, Focus does not go completely crazy. The head tube angle and reach values were chosen with care. The result: A balanced riding behaviour with a good combination of playfulness and straight-line stability. The bottom bracket is high, which costs handling points. This tends to make the rider stand on the bike. On other EMTBs it feels better integrated. Short chainstays and make the front end light in steep climbs. To keep the front wheel on the ground, you need to consciously lean forward. On the scale, the JAM² SL 8.8 makes a good figure with 19,7 kg. Most All Mountains are significantly heavier.

Conclusion

Expirience with the Focus JAM² SL 8.8

Friends of gravity should jot down the JAM² SL 8.8. With a very good handling and a good chassis, the Focus is a real trail rocket even for really gnarly terrain. But a mediocre brake system are of course points of criticism that one should be aware of before purchasing. Be careful when choosing the size: The Carbon frame sizing runs small. Focus gives a warranty of 6 years on the bike.
