The DUNE RR, alongside the Neat and the Crusher, is another downhill-focused rig from Mondraker. Sporting a Bosch SX motor, additional travel, and mullet wheels, it stands out distinctly from its siblings in the brand's lineup.
The SX from Bosch shows impressively that they shouldn't be limited to DIY and household products. The developers at Bosch are entering the race with their first Light Motor, the Performance SX. With 55 Nm of torque, the unit sits squarely between Fazua's Ride 6 and TQ's HPR 5. However, it delivers similar power values to the popular Full-Power sibling, the Powermotor CX, with up to 6 watts of assistance. However, the Bosch SX only delivers this power at a very high cadence. To feel the full power, one must pedal at a sporty 1 revolutions per minute. The startup behavior remains harmonious. The entire motor control is very natural. While in operation, the Performance SX is quieter than the Powermotor CX, but still louder than the sometimes whisper-quiet competition from Fazua or TQ. When descending, Bosch has managed to reduce rattling compared to the CX model, although it remains noticeably audible with the SX. Fans of XXL tours are greatly restricted by the DUNE RR , because of its low range.

Even the most treacherous downhill runs are effortlessly handled by the high-end Öhlins chassis. The thick 38mm stanchions on the fork provide an extra dose of steering precision and performance. At the brakes, Mondraker middle class four pistons brakes by SRAM are used. The components and the gears are less in the spotlight with an EMTB than with bikes without motor. Nevertheless, when we take a look we find out that here, good components are always used. In view of the high reach value, it becomes clear: The main frame is long. However, the generous reach is compensated for by a very short stem. This way, Mondraker creates a good weight distribution between the wheels and a balanced handling. With its 19,4 kg, the DUNE RR is one of the lighter E-bikes. The competition is often significantly heavier.

Expirience with the Mondraker DUNE RR

With an excellent geometry, a very good motor and a very good chassis, Mondraker has put together a coherent package. Tour riders will find this bike a very good all-rounder for tours on insanely technical trails. Despite its many advantages, the DUNE RR also has a weak side. You have to live with a average brake system on this EMTB. The warranty of 25 years proves that Mondraker has a lot of trust in its products.
