Canyon NEURON:ONfly CF 7 Review

The NEURON:ONfly CF 7 is Canyon's first light eMTB and impresses above all with its high-quality frame. The team of developers and designers have not only succeeded in creating a good design, but also in adding useful features. The steering stop limiter or the integrated cable routing should be mentioned here, as well as the double-sealed bearings. The chassis is also available in five sizes from XS to XL.

Bosch is the major motor manufacturer in the EMTB world, alongside Shimano - and it's no surprise, as the SX shows. The developers at Bosch are entering the race with their first Light Motor, the Performance SX. With 55 Nm of torque, the unit sits squarely between Fazua's Ride 60 and TQ's HPR 50. However, it delivers similar power values to the popular Full-Power sibling, the Powermotor CX, with up to 600 watts of assistance. However, the Bosch SX only delivers this power at a very high cadence. To feel the full power, one must pedal at a sporty 100 revolutions per minute. The startup behavior remains harmonious. The entire motor control is natural. While in operation, the Performance SX is quieter than the Powermotor CX, but still louder than the sometimes whisper-quiet competition from Fazua or TQ. When descending, Bosch has managed to reduce rattling compared to the CX model, although it remains noticeably audible with the SX. The short range unfortunately limits the tour radius quite significantly. Who wants to remove the battery for charging or storing, will be disappointed with the NEURON:ONfly CF 7. The battery is firmly built-in.

At a glance

The most importanten ratings of the Canyon NEURON:ONfly CF 7 in comparison to the competitor bikes of following categorie: (5000) .

In the about 5000€ price range, most manufacturers use aluminium as the frame material. With a carbon frame, Canyon turns the weight screw and sets itself apart from the competitors. Rough descents take away some of the fear thanks to the average chassis. Especially for heavy riders, the Canyon brakes could be a problem. With four pistons they only decelerate averagely. The components and the shifting seem less important for Canyon. The components used here have a clear potential for improvement after a view at the competitors. When it comes to the geometry, Canyon does not go completely crazy. The head tube angle and reach values were chosen with care. The result: A balanced riding behaviour with a good combination of playfulness and straight-line stability. Hell yeah, the geometry is killer! Here the know-how of the Canyon developers is videly visible. The scale stays at 20,4 kg with this model. That makes the NEURON:ONfly CF 7 one of the light Trailbikes.

Conclusion

Expirience with the Canyon NEURON:ONfly CF 7

Friends of gravity should jot down the NEURON:ONfly CF 7. With a very good geometry, the Canyon is a real trail rocket. But a weak groupset and a weak range are of course points of criticism that one should be aware of before purchasing. With 6 years of warranty, nothing stands in the way of a long-term relationship.
